Cloak and Dagger: Zero Day (WannaCry and NotPetya Part 2 of 3)

Zero Day

After successfully hacking the NSA, the ShadowBrokers released a set of hacking tools known as EternalBlue and EternalRomance. These tools were developed by the NSA and were used to exploit vulnerabilities in Microsoft Windows operating systems. The tools were then used by hackers to launch the WannaCry and NotPetya ransomware attacks.

The WannaCry attack was launched in May 2017 and affected more than 200,000 computers in over 150 countries. The attack was believed to be linked to North Korea, although this has never been confirmed. The attack caused billions of dollars in damage and disrupted the operations of many organizations. In addition, the NotPetya attack (which is believed to be a variant of WannaCry) was launched in June 2017 and was believed to be linked to Russia. The attack affected more than 60,000 computers in over 65 countries and caused billions of dollars in damage.

The WannaCry and NotPetya attacks were a major wake-up call for the world, as they highlighted the need for better cybersecurity measures. The attacks also highlighted the need for governments to be aware of the potential risks posed by cyberattacks, and to take steps to protect their citizens and their data. The attacks also highlighted the need for better security measures to protect against cyberattacks. Many organizations have since implemented a number of measures to improve their cybersecurity, including the establishment of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). These include keeping operating systems and software up to date, using strong passwords, and avoiding interacting with suspicious emails and websites.

Overall, the ShadowBrokers have had a major effect on the WannaCry and NotPetya attacks. The tools they released were used to exploit vulnerabilities in Microsoft Windows operating systems, which allowed hackers to launch the attacks. The attacks caused billions of dollars in damage and disrupted the operations of many organizations. The ShadowBrokers have also been linked to other cyberattacks, including the recent BlueKeep vulnerability. It is clear that the ShadowBrokers have had a major effect on the security landscape and will continue to be a threat in the future.
